Are dash cams legal in Australia?
Yes — recording the road from your own vehicle is legal in every Australian state. Two things matter: mount the camera so it doesn’t obstruct your view of the road, and if you record audio inside the cabin (common for rideshare), let your passengers know — audio consent rules differ by state.
Do I need front and rear, or is front-only enough?
Front-only covers most incidents, but rear-end collisions are the most common disputed claim on Australian roads — which is why front-and-rear (2-channel) is the setup most of our customers choose. If your budget allows, get the rear camera.
What is parking mode and do I need it?
Parking mode keeps the camera recording (or watching for impacts and motion) while your car is parked — how car-park dents and hit-and-runs get caught. It needs constant power: a hardwire kit, an OBD-II cable, or a dedicated battery pack. If your car sleeps on the street or in a shared car park, it’s worth it.
Will parking mode flatten my car battery?
Not when it’s set up properly. Hardwire kits include a voltage cutoff that shuts the camera down long before your battery runs low. For EVs and hybrids — or if you just want zero risk — a dash cam battery pack (like Cellink) runs the camera without touching your car’s battery at all.
Can I install a dash cam myself?
Usually, yes. A cigarette-lighter or USB-C connection is plug-and-play, and most of our customers hardwire with the included kit in an afternoon using our guides. If you’d rather not, a qualified auto electrician typically charges around $200 for a front camera or $250–$350 for front and rear — and we can point you in the right direction, or handle fleet installations in Melbourne.
Which memory card should I use?
A high-endurance card — dash cams rewrite footage constantly and standard cards wear out fast. We recommend Samsung PRO Endurance or EVO Plus. Note: some manufacturers (including Abee) void the warranty if SanDisk cards are used, so check the product page before you buy one.
Will it survive an Australian summer on my windscreen?
The cameras we stock are chosen for exactly that. Look for supercapacitor models (no battery to swell in the heat) — most of our range is rated to 60–70°C, well beyond a Melbourne or Brisbane dashboard in January.
How do I view and save footage?
Three ways, depending on the model: the maker’s phone app over Wi-Fi (easiest for grabbing a clip after an incident), the free desktop player for reviewing the whole card, and — on cloud models like BlackVue LTE — live view and clip access from anywhere via 4G.
What warranty do I get?
Genuine Australian warranties, because we’re an authorised dealer — up to 3 years on BlackVue and FineVu cameras, 2 years on Cellink battery packs, and a minimum of 12 months on everything else. If anything goes wrong you deal with us in Melbourne, not an overseas seller.
