New FineVu GX1600-2CH and GX9000-2CH: Which New FineVu Dash Cam Should You Buy? (2026)
FineVu has added two new two-channel dash cams to its Australian range, and they land at opposite ends of the same question: do you want the sharpest possible footage, or do you want to see it on a screen? The FineVu GX1600-2CH is the new flagship: true 4K front, 2K rear, everything built in. The FineVu GX9000-2CH is the first FineVu we have stocked with a 3.5″ touchscreen. Both are in stock in Melbourne now with the full 3-year FineVu Australian warranty. Here is where each one sits, who it suits, and how they compare with the GX4K and GX35 you may already know.

The short answer
Choose the GX1600-2CH if number-plate detail is the priority.
It records 4K Ultra HD at the front on a large 1/1.8″ Sony STARVIS 2 sensor and 2K Quad HD at the rear, with HDR and automatic night vision on both cameras, eight ADAS alerts including rear blind-spot detection, and GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built into the body. It is a discreet, screen-free unit, and it is the FineVu we would put in a company car or a fleet vehicle. Launch price $799 (RRP $899).
Choose the GX9000-2CH if you want to check the camera without reaching for your phone.
Its 3.5″ IPS touchscreen shows the front view, the rear view or both in picture-in-picture, which makes aiming the rear camera simple and lets you review a car-park incident on the spot. It records 2K Quad HD at the front and Full HD at the rear, with FineVu’s Auto Super Night Vision 2.0 and a 0.06W power-saving parking mode. Launch price $599 (RRP $699).
Neither replaces the GX4K-2CH or the GX35-2CH. The GX4K stays our value 4K pick and the GX35 stays the budget pick; the two new models slot in above and beside them, which we cover in the comparison below.
FineVu GX1600-2CH: the new flagship
The GX1600 is the most capable FineVu we have stocked, and the spec reads like a checklist of the things customers ask us for on a premium two-channel camera. The six that matter most:
Screen-free, low-profile body
No display means a slimmer unit that tucks behind the mirror and does not distract. If you want a screen, that is what the GX9000 is for.
In the box: 64GB card (takes up to 256GB), cigarette-lighter power cord for a no-hardwire install, hardwire cable, mounts and clips. Runs on 12V and 24V, uses a supercapacitor rather than a lithium battery, rated from -10°C to 60°C.
FineVu GX9000-2CH: the touchscreen FineVu
The GX9000 answers a request we hear constantly: “can I see what it is recording without using the app?” Yes. The 3.5″ IPS touchscreen on the back of the front unit shows front, rear, or both together in picture-in-picture, and you can play back a clip on the screen.
Why a screen matters more than it sounds
The first benefit is at installation: you can see exactly what the rear camera frames while you aim it, instead of guessing and then checking on your phone. The second is after an incident: you can confirm the camera caught it and show it to the other driver or the police at the roadside.
The screen can be switched off while driving and the camera keeps recording with the display dark. Tap to switch between the front view, the rear view and picture-in-picture.
GPS receiver and Wi-Fi dongle included. Unlike the GX1600, the GX9000 uses an external GPS receiver and a Wi-Fi dongle, both in the box, both plugging into the front unit and tucking behind the mirror. The FineVu app then connects over Wi-Fi with Bluetooth for pairing. Also in the box: 32GB card (takes up to 128GB), cigarette-lighter cord and hardwire cable. Supercapacitor, -10°C to 60°C.

Which one should you buy?
GX1600-2CH
The bigger sensor and the 2K rear are the two things you cannot add later. Highway kilometres, night driving, or evidence for a fleet: this is the one.
$799 RRP $899
GX9000-2CH
The touchscreen is the whole point. It is also the easier camera to hand to a family member or an employee who is never going to install an app.
$599 RRP $699
GX4K-2CH
Still our value 4K pick. If the rear plate is a nice-to-have rather than a must, the GX4K does the front job for less than the GX1600.
$649 RRP $709
GX35-2CH
Small, discreet, parking mode, 3-year warranty. It remains the best way into the FineVu range under $500.
$449 RRP $499
Want overnight parking cover with zero draw on the car battery? Pair either new model with a Cellink NEO battery pack. Both cameras have a low-voltage cut-off to protect the car battery when hardwired, but a dedicated pack gives you days of parking recording rather than hours.
Installation and parking mode
Both cameras come with a cigarette-lighter cord for a ten-minute plug-in install that records while you drive, and a hardwire cable for parking mode. Hardwiring to the fuse box is a straightforward DIY job on most cars with an add-a-fuse kit, and the OBD-II parking cable is an option if you would rather not touch the fuse box.
One practical note on the two models: the GX1600 has no windscreen add-ons at all, while the GX9000’s GPS receiver and Wi-Fi dongle both need a spot behind the mirror. Neither is difficult, but the GX1600 is the cleaner install.
In Melbourne? We come to you.
Onsite front and rear installation at your home anywhere in Metro Melbourne: hidden wiring, hardwiring if you buy the kit, and a full system test before the technician leaves. $370 for cameras bought from us.
What we will add next
These are launch notes, not a long-term test. We publish our own Australian day and night footage on FineVu product pages once we have had the cameras in our own cars for a few weeks, and we will update this post and the 2026 dash cam recommendations with what we find. If you buy one in the meantime and have a question about setup, call us on (03) 9350 2605 and you will get someone who has installed them.
FAQs
Is the GX1600 worth $200 more than the GX9000?
If plate detail matters, yes: 4K front on a larger sensor, a 2K rear, HDR on both cameras and rear ADAS are all things the GX9000 does not have. If you mainly want a screen and solid 2K footage, no: the GX9000 is the better fit and the better value.
Does the GX9000’s screen stay on while driving?
It can be switched off while driving and the camera keeps recording. Most owners leave it off on the road and tap it when they need it.
Can I use a bigger memory card?
The GX1600 takes up to 256GB and the GX9000 up to 128GB. A larger high-endurance card gives you more parking history before the oldest files are overwritten. Both product pages have a card upgrade option.
Do they work with the FineVu app?
Yes, both use the FineVu app for iOS and Android. The GX1600 connects with its built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; the GX9000 uses the included Wi-Fi dongle.
What is the warranty?
Three years on the camera, handled here in Australia by Dash Cams Australia, with 12 months on accessories and memory cards. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in addition.
